A Frozen Fairytale in the Atlas Mountains
Today was a day of chasing frozen dreams in the High Atlas. The promise of icy waterfalls and stunning mountain vistas lured me into a day of exploration and discovery. It was a day where the raw beauty of nature intertwined with the warmth of Berber hospitality, creating memories I know I will cherish long after I've left Morocco.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurant Terrase d'Imlil. The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of mint tea and freshly baked bread. I savored every bite, knowing I needed the energy for the day's adventure. The terrace offered a panoramic view of the valley, the rising sun painting the landscape in hues of gold and amber. It was the perfect start to what promised to be an unforgettable day.

Fueled and ready, I set off towards the Cascades gelées d'IGHOULIDNE. The trail wound its way through small Berber villages, each one a tapestry of earth-toned houses clinging to the mountainside. Children waved as I passed, their smiles as bright as the sun overhead. I couldn't help but think of Leila and how much she would have loved this. I made a mental note to bring Greta and her back here one day.

The hike itself was challenging but rewarding. The terrain was rocky and steep in places, but the views more than made up for the effort. As I climbed higher, the air grew colder, and the landscape transformed into a winter wonderland. The waterfalls, living up to their name, were partially frozen, creating a surreal and breathtaking sight. The ice formations sparkled in the sunlight, like diamonds scattered across the rock face. It reminded me of ice climbing in Finland, which I've seen pictures of.
The mountains are calling and I must go.
For lunch, I stopped at Restaurant Cascade Ait Misan. Nestled near stunning waterfalls, this spot offered not only breathtaking views but also a delightful array of local cuisine. I indulged in a traditional tagine, the savory stew warming me from the inside out. The restaurant was bustling with locals and tourists alike, all eager to savor the flavors of the region. The sounds of laughter and conversation filled the air, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

After lunch, I continued my exploration of the area, hiking deeper into the mountains. I stumbled upon hidden valleys and panoramic viewpoints, each one more stunning than the last. The solitude was profound, broken only by the occasional bleating of a goat or the chirping of a bird. It was a chance to disconnect from the world and reconnect with myself, a luxury that's so rare back in Berlin. I thought about my freelance marketing work, and how moments like these fuel my creativity and give me fresh perspectives.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, I made my way back to Imlil. Before dinner, I decided to stop by Cafe atlas Toubkal for a drink. The cafe was a cozy haven, with a fireplace crackling in the corner and the aroma of coffee filling the air. I ordered a mint tea, a staple in Moroccan culture, and settled into a comfortable chair. The cafe offered an stunning view of the valley and the majestic Mount Toubkal. The diverse menu is designed to satisfy all palates, proposing a variety of dishes, from hot to cold sandwiches, without forgetting their delicious freshly squeezed juices. The cafe is a hidden gem with an breathtaking view of the valley and the majestic Mount Toubkal.

For dinner, I chose La table de tigmi Ait Mizane. The restaurant had a cozy, family-like atmosphere. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the food was simply divine. I opted for a traditional Berber dish, a flavorful combination of meat, vegetables, and spices. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day.

Tomorrow, I plan to explore Biguinoussene and soak in the High Atlas Mountains view. I'm also hoping to find a women cooperative of carpet Berber handcrafted in atlas of Morocco community. I am excited to see what tomorrow brings.
