Skënduli House is located in the Palorto neighborhood of Gjirokastra's Old Town. From the Gjirokastra Bazaar, walk uphill along the cobblestone streets towards the Ethnographic Museum. Skënduli House is a short walk from the Ethnographic Museum. Be prepared for steep inclines and uneven surfaces. Taxis are readily available in the New Town and can take you to the entrance of the Old Town for approximately 200-300 Lekë. From there, it is a short walk to the house.
Public Transport

Gjirokastra has a public bus circuit that connects the New Town to the Old Town. Take the bus that goes to the Old Town and get off at the Ethnographic Museum stop. From there, it is a short walk to Skënduli House. A single bus fare costs approximately 30 Lekë. Be prepared for a steep walk uphill from the bus stop to the house.

Partially rebuilt in 1827, this three-story house reflects the opulence of the Skënduli family, one of the wealthiest in southern Albania. The house boasts 64 windows, 44 doors, 12 rooms, and multiple fireplaces, features that signified the family's prestige.Visitors can explore the house's many rooms, most of which are preserved in their original state with authentic objects. The intricate wood carvings, decorated ceilings, and innovative use of space highlight the craftsmanship of the Ottoman period. One of the most captivating features is the wedding room, adorned with 15 stained glass windows. The house also features hidden passageways and storage spaces, adding to its mystique.During the communist era, the house was used as the city's Ethnographic Museum. After the fall of communism, it was returned to the Skënduli family, who now welcome visitors and share stories about the house's history. A tour of Skënduli House provides an immersive experience, offering insights into the daily life, gender roles, and celebratory traditions of a prominent Ottoman family.
