Discover more about Shtepia e Ficove Gjirokaster

Shtepia e Ficove, built in 1902, stands as a testament to the architectural changes in Gjirokastër during the latter half of the 19th century. This house showcases the evolution of Gjirokastër dwellings, distinguishing itself through its interior and exterior decorations. The interior design of Shtepia e Ficove reflects a simplification of the ornate style found in other traditional houses in Gjirokastër. The 'musandara,' typically adorned with carvings and decorations, is presented here with greater simplicity. The house features a unique attic at the center of the upper floor, creating a beautiful atmosphere with painted walls, a decorated ceiling, and natural light streaming through the windows. One of the most remarkable features of this house is the bridge connecting it to the neighboring house. Built to connect two homes of the same tribe, the bridge rests on a stone vault, allowing passage without blocking the road. Shtepia e Ficove is easily recognized by its striking yellow color.
