Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Tirana's city center, go to the 'Qendra Tregtare Univers' bus station. Look for Bus number 29 heading towards Pellumbas. The fare is approximately 40 ALL. Ride the bus for about 30 minutes until you reach the 'Pellumbas' stop. From there, follow the signs to the Black Cave and Canyon Tour; the hiking trail starts in the village.

  • Taxi

    Take a taxi from anywhere in Tirana to Pellumbas, Berzhite, Tirana 1001, Albania. The drive is approximately 30 minutes and should cost around 1500-2000 ALL. The taxi will drop you off near the entrance to the Black Cave and Canyon Tour, where the hiking trail begins.

  • Car

    From the center of Tirana, head south on the SH1 highway. Continue for approximately 45 minutes until you reach the exit for Pellumbas. Follow the signs for Pellumbas on a smaller road. After about 10 minutes, you will arrive at the entrance of Black Cave and Canyon Tour Pellumbas. Parking availability may vary.

The Black Cave, also known as Pellumbas Cave (Shpella e Zezë or Shpella e Pëllumbasit), is a karst cave located in central Albania, near the village of Pellumbas in Tirana County. Situated in the Skorana Gorge, it lies approximately 500 meters above the Adriatic Sea, on the slopes of the Dajti mountain chain. The cave stretches approximately 360 meters in length, with a width varying between 10 to 15 meters and a vertical range of 45 meters. Inside, you'll find stunning stalactites and stalagmites, evidence of the cave's long geological history. The cave has been recognized as a natural monument of national and international importance. Archaeological findings suggest that the cave was inhabited from the Paleolithic period through the Medieval period. It was also a shelter for the villagers of Pellumbas during World War II. Fossils attributed to cave bears that lived over 10,000 years ago have been discovered within the cave. The hike to Pellumbas Cave from Pellumbas village is about 2 km and takes approximately one hour. The trail offers spectacular views of the Erzen Canyon.
