Discover more about Església de la Santa Creu de Canillo

Nestled in the village of Canillo, Andorra, the Església de la Santa Creu (Holy Cross Church) is a testament to the region's rich religious and architectural heritage. This small but striking church, constructed between the late 17th and early 18th centuries, showcases the popular Baroque style of the era. Standing near the Valira d'Orient river, at the intersection of the old Prats road and the Carrer Major, the church historically served as a place of prayer and rest for travelers. Its design features a rectangular nave and apse, covered with slate tiles, and a small bell tower. The main facade includes a round arch doorway flanked by windows and sheltered by a porch. Inside, the church is simply adorned with whitewashed walls and slate-paved floors. The apse features a Baroque altarpiece dedicated to the Passion of Christ, with figures of Mary and Saint John the Evangelist. The church, protected as a Cultural Asset of Andorra since 2003, was restored in 2004, preserving its historical and artistic value.
