Ferry
The most common way to reach St. John and the Virgin Islands National Park is by taking a ferry from St. Thomas. Ferries depart from Red Hook and Charlotte Amalie to Cruz Bay, St. John. From Red Hook, the passenger ferry is about a 20-minute ride and costs $8.15 for non-residents one way. From Charlotte Amalie, the ferry runs less frequently. A car barge also runs from Red Hook to St. John. Once in Cruz Bay, you can access the park via taxi, rental car, or the VITRAN bus system.

Taxi
Taxis are readily available at the Cruz Bay ferry dock. Taxi rates are standardized and are per person, per destination. As of 2023, prices range from $8-$38 per ride for one person, one way. It is advisable to agree on the total rate with the driver before starting your trip. For travel between midnight and 6:00 am, there is an additional charge of $3 per person. Keep in mind that taxis often operate as shared rides.

Public Transport
The VITRAN bus system provides public transportation on St. John, running along Centerline Road from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay. While affordable at $2 per ride, it may not be the most convenient option for reaching specific beaches or trailheads. The bus schedule can be unreliable.

Parking within the Virgin Islands National Park is limited, especially at popular beaches. Lots often fill up by 10:00 am. Consider using taxi services to avoid parking hassles. If you choose to drive, arrive early. Limited free parking is available at the National Park Visitor Center for visitors participating in park activities; a parking permit is required. Paid parking lots are available in Cruz Bay.
