Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, head towards El Calafate from any point in Central Patagonia. If you are coming from the direction of El Chaltén, take Route 40 south until you reach the junction with Route 11. Turn left onto Route 11 and continue straight until you arrive in El Calafate, which is about 213 kilometers from El Chaltén. Once you are in El Calafate, drive to Almirante G. Brown street. The Centro de Interpretación Histórica Calafate is located at Almirante G. Brown 1175, easily recognizable by its signage. Parking is available nearby.

• Bus

  For those using public transportation, you can take a long-distance bus to El Calafate from major cities such as El Chaltén or Río Gallegos. Bus companies like Chaltén Travel and Via Bariloche operate routes to El Calafate. Once you arrive at the El Calafate bus terminal, the Centro de Interpretación Histórica Calafate is approximately a 15-20 minute walk from the terminal. Exit the bus terminal, and head east on Avenida Libertador, then turn right onto Almirante G. Brown street. The museum will be on your left at number 1175.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  After arriving in El Calafate via bus, you can also opt for a taxi or rideshare service to reach the Centro de Interpretación Histórica Calafate. Taxis are readily available at the bus terminal, and the ride to the museum should take around 5 minutes. Expect to pay approximately 300-500 Argentine pesos, depending on traffic.
