    The Sendero al Fitz Roy trailhead is located at the north end of El Chaltén, at the end of Avenida San Martin. From most points in town, it's an easy 15-minute walk to the trailhead. Follow Avenida San Martin to its end, where you'll find a large parking lot and the trail entrance.

  • Public Transport

    El Chaltén is accessible by bus from El Calafate. Bus companies like Chaltén Travel, TAQSA, and Caltur operate daily services. From the El Chaltén bus terminal, the Sendero al Fitz Roy trailhead is approximately a 15-20 minute walk. Follow Avenida Güemes to Avenida San Martin and continue to the end of the road. A municipal tax of approximately AR$2,000 is charged at the El Chaltén Bus Terminal.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available in El Chaltén, and a ride to the Sendero al Fitz Roy trailhead from anywhere in town will be a short and convenient option. Expect to pay a minimal fare for a short trip within town. Alternatively, some hikers opt to take a taxi to Hostería El Pilar, about 30 minutes outside El Chaltén, to shave approximately 4 km off the beginning of the hike. A taxi to El Pilar can cost between $1,000-1,300.

While the majority of the trail is considered moderate, the last kilometer is a challenging ascent, gaining 400 meters in elevation. Hikers can also extend their experience by camping at Campamento Poincenot or Campamento Laguna Capri. The best time to hike is during the summer months (December to February) for warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours.
