Travel Guide to Huechulafquen Lake

Getting There

• Car

  From San Martín de los Andes, head south on Route 40. Continue for approximately 28 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Route 234. Turn left onto Route 234. Follow this road for about 12 kilometers, where you will see signs for Huechulafquen Lake. The lake will be on your right. Keep in mind that some sections of the road may be unpaved, so drive carefully.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Huechulafquen Lake via public transportation, start at the main bus terminal in San Martín de los Andes. Look for a bus that is heading towards Junín de los Andes, as some buses will stop at Huechulafquen Lake. The bus ride will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Make sure to ask the driver to let you off at the lake, as not all buses stop there. The cost for the bus ticket is usually around 200-300 ARS.

• Taxi or Ride-Sharing

  If you prefer a more direct route or are traveling with a group, consider taking a taxi or using a ride-sharing service. You can book a taxi from anywhere in San Martín de los Andes. The estimated fare to Huechulafquen Lake is around 2,000-3,000 ARS, depending on the time of day and traffic conditions. The trip will take approximately 30-40 minutes.

• Bicycle

  For the more adventurous, cycling to Huechulafquen Lake is an option. From San Martín de los Andes, take Route 40 south and then turn onto Route 234 as previously described. The ride is approximately 40 kilometers one way, and it can take around 2-3 hours depending on your fitness level. Ensure you have enough water and snacks, as there are limited facilities along the way.
