Discover more about Oak Grove Historic Cabin

The Oak Grove Historic Cabin, located within the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, provides a window into the lives of early settlers in the Arizona Strip. Built in the early 1900s, the cabin stands as a testament to the pioneering spirit of those who braved the challenges of this remote region. Originally, the site was part of a dairy ranch established in 1879 by the Canaan Company. Later, it played a role in the United Order Movement of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with families sharing their resources and labor. The dairy provided milk, butter, and cheese to surrounding communities. The area's lush pastures eventually transitioned to arid desert due to overgrazing and drought. Today, visitors can explore the cabin's surroundings, imagine the lives of its early inhabitants, and appreciate the natural beauty of the area. Hiking trails offer opportunities for birdwatching and enjoying the peaceful scenery. The cabin provides a tangible link to the past and a chance to reflect on the resilience of those who shaped this landscape.
