Public Bus
To reach the Sonoran Preserve - Desert Vista Trailhead from downtown Tempe, start by walking to the nearest bus stop at Mill Ave/3rd St. Take the Valley Metro Bus Route 66 heading northbound. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the 'Dunlap Ave & 19th Ave' stop. From there, transfer to Bus Route 105, which will take you directly to 'Sonoran Desert Dr & 16th Ave' stop. The trailhead is a short 5-minute walk from the bus stop. Head west along Sonoran Desert Drive, and you will find the entrance to the preserve.

Bicycle
If you prefer to bike, rent a bicycle from a local bike rental shop in Tempe. Head north on Mill Ave toward the Tempe Town Lake. From there, follow the path that connects to the Arizona Canal Trail. Continue on the trail heading northwest for about 10 miles. When you reach the intersection with 19th Ave, head south until you arrive at Sonoran Desert Drive. Turn right and continue until you reach the Desert Vista Trailhead entrance.

For those who enjoy walking, you can start at the Tempe Marketplace. Walk northwest on Rio Salado Parkway towards the 143 Freeway. Cross the bridge and continue onto the Arizona Canal Trail. Follow the trail for approximately 5 miles until you reach the intersection with 19th Ave. From there, head south to Sonoran Desert Drive and turn right. The Desert Vista Trailhead will be a short walk ahead on your left.
