    From Phoenix, take I-17 North towards Flagstaff. Exit at AZ-260 East towards Payson and continue for about 25 miles. In Payson, turn left onto AZ-87 North, then take the right onto Fossil Creek Road (Forest Road 708). Follow Fossil Creek Road for approximately 7 miles until you reach the parking area. Note that parts of Fossil Creek Road may be unpaved and require a high-clearance vehicle. There is no fee for parking, but ensure your vehicle is parked in designated areas.

    From Phoenix, you can take a Greyhound bus to Payson. Once in Payson, you will need to arrange for a ride share or taxi to Fossil Creek Road (Forest Road 708). After reaching the parking area, a 3-mile hike on the Fossil Creek Trail will take you to the Toilet Bowl. Ensure you have proper hiking gear and water as the hike can be strenuous.

  • Hiking

    If you are already in the Tonto National Forest and near the Fossil Creek Trailhead, take the Fossil Creek Trail (follow the signs) which leads directly to the Toilet Bowl. The trail is approximately 3 miles one way and may take 1-2 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks for the trip.
