Discover more about Old Town Artisans | Downtown Tucson Shops

Old Town Artisans, situated at 201 N Court Ave in Tucson, Arizona, is more than just a collection of shops; it's a step back in time. The site occupies the grounds of El Presidio San Augustin del Tucson, a fort built by the Spanish in 1775. This historic block was once the stables area of the fort, and its north wall stands where the fort's north wall once repelled Apache attacks. Construction of the current adobe buildings began in the 1850s. In 1888, Julius Goldbaum, a liquor merchant, purchased the property and used it as a distillery and family residence. Today, as you stroll through the shops, you can still see original ceilings made of saguaro cactus ribs, packing crates, and whiskey barrel staves, along with remnants of imported wallpaper and gold-leaf moldings. The complex comprises several artisan shops, an art gallery, a restaurant (La Cocina), and a pub, all surrounding a Spanish-style courtyard with a stage for live music and a pond. Old Town Artisans offers a diverse shopping experience, with handcrafted jewelry, pottery, textiles, vintage wares, and Native American art available. The on-site restaurant, La Cocina, provides a beautiful outdoor setting for experiencing Tucson's history and culture, often featuring live music. The complex is rumored to be haunted by spirits from its past, including soldiers and former residents.
