Getting There

  • Car

    From Yerevan, take the E117 highway southeast towards Yeghegnadzor. The drive is approximately 126 km and takes about 2 hours. Once in Yeghegnadzor, follow local roads towards Yeghegis. The sanctuary is located in the Yeghegis River basin. There is no fee to enter the area.

  • Public Transport

    Take a bus from Yerevan's Kilikia bus station to Yeghegnadzor. Buses run several times a day, and the journey takes approximately 3 hours. From Yeghegnadzor, take a local taxi to the Yeghegnadzor Sanctuary. The taxi ride to the sanctuary will cost around 1,000-1,500 AMD. There is no fee to enter the area.

It covers 4200 hectares in the Vayots Dzor Province, within the Yeghegis River basin, at altitudes of 1200-2800 meters above sea level. The sanctuary was created to protect forest landscapes and rare animals. The Yeghegnadzor Sanctuary is a haven for various wildlife species, including the red-listed brown bear and the bezoar goat. The area also hosts rare and endemic pear species and some of the oldest Juniperus forests in the country.
