Discover more about Wentworth Falls

Wentworth Falls is a picturesque town in the Blue Mountains, approximately 100 kilometers west of Sydney. The town and its major attraction, the Wentworth Falls, are named in honor of William Charles Wentworth, one of the first European explorers to cross the Blue Mountains in 1813. However, the area has been a gathering place for the Gundungurra, Darug, and Wiradjuri people for at least 22,000 years, holding significant cultural features. The Wentworth Falls themselves are a stunning series of waterfalls that cascade dramatically into the Jamison Valley. The main falls drop around 100 meters, and various walking tracks offer different vantage points, from the accessible Jamison and Wentworth lookouts to the more challenging descent to the top of the falls via Fletchers lookout. The Wentworth Falls Track is a popular, albeit steep, walk that rewards hikers with panoramic valley views. More adventurous hikers can combine this track with the Undercliff Track or the National Pass for a longer loop. Historically, the area was first known as Weatherboard, after the Weatherboard Hut built in 1814. This hut served as a supply post during the construction of the road across the Blue Mountains. Later, the area was briefly named Jamison's Valley. The railway's arrival in 1867 spurred the area's growth, providing easier access to the mountains' clean air and scenery. Today, Wentworth Falls is a blend of natural beauty and historical significance, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in both.
