Discover more about Grand Canyon Walking Track

The Grand Canyon Walking Track, located in the Blackheath region of the Blue Mountains National Park, is a 6.3km loop steeped in natural beauty and history. Opened in 1907, it was one of the first marked walking tracks in the area. The track descends into a canyon carved by Greaves Creek, showcasing a diverse ecosystem that transitions from eucalypt forest to lush rainforest. As you descend, you'll be surrounded by towering sandstone walls, vibrant ferns, and the sounds of cascading waterfalls. The well-maintained path follows Greaves Creek, crossing it several times via stepping stones and bridges. The track winds past moss-covered rocks, dramatic overhangs, and small caves, creating a primeval, lost-world atmosphere. The plentiful waterfalls and flowing creek make it a particularly good walk to cool off in the summer months. However, it is important to never walk in a canyon before, during, or after heavy rain. The hike is considered moderately challenging, with steep ascents and descents aided by staircases. The most logical place to begin is the Grand Canyon Car Park. From the car park, you can head southwest along Evans Lookout Road towards the Neates Glen Parking Area, where the trail descends into the bush. Alternatively, you can start in the opposite direction (clockwise) by heading northeast along the road to Evans Lookout, where a staircase leads down into the canyon.
