Discover more about Hargraves Lookout

Hargraves Lookout, situated on the Shipley Plateau near Blackheath, is a historically significant and visually stunning destination in the Blue Mountains. Opened in 1915, it was one of the first scenic areas developed for tourists in the region. The lookout is named after William Hargraves (1839-1925), a Blackheath pioneer who developed many walking tracks in the Medlow area. From the lookout's several viewing platforms, visitors can enjoy sweeping views over the Megalong Valley, the Kanimbla Valley, Ngula Bulgarabang Regional Park, and the Narrow Neck Plateau. On a clear day, the vista extends as far as Oberon, approximately 40km to the west, and Medlow Bath to the east. A short, somewhat challenging bushwalking trail leads to Panorama Point, offering even more valley views, including Narrow Neck and Kanangra Walls in the distance. The lookout area is well-maintained, with a spacious parking area and toilet facilities. The main viewing platform is a short stroll from the car park, making it easily accessible. The site is wheelchair accessible. Hargraves Lookout provides a unique perspective of the southern Blue Mountains, distinct from the views offered at lookouts like Govetts Leap and Evans Lookout.
