Discover more about Govetts Leap lookout

Govetts Leap Lookout is one of the most famous and easily accessible lookouts in the Blue Mountains, offering unparalleled views of the Grose Valley. Named after William Govett, who first surveyed the area in 1831, it provides a stunning vista of sandstone cliffs, deep canyons, and the vast Grose Wilderness. The highlight is the Bridal Veil Falls (also known as Govetts Leap Falls), which plunges 180 meters to the valley floor. The falls are most impressive after rainfall, though strong winds can sometimes blow the water back up the cliff face. The 'ozone-laden' air is invigorating, and the area is home to rare mountain blue gums, preserved by early bushwalkers. The lookout itself is equipped with facilities including a carpark, accessible toilets, and picnic tables. Several walking tracks begin at Govetts Leap, ranging from easy strolls to more challenging hikes. The accessible Fairfax Heritage Track leads to the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre and George Phillips Lookout. Shorter walks provide closer views of the falls, while longer trails extend to Evans Lookout and Pulpit Rock. Birdwatchers will enjoy spotting king parrots and yellow-tailed black cockatoos.
