Leura Falls: A Blue Mountains Jewel
Experience the tranquility of Leura Falls, a picturesque waterfall in the heart of the Blue Mountains. Perfect for a peaceful escape.
Leura Falls, situated within the Blue Mountains National Park near the charming town of Leura, is a captivating natural attraction. The falls are part of the Leura Falls Creek system, which also includes the nearby Leura Cascades and Bridal Veil Falls. The area has been a popular tourist destination since the late 19th century, with early promotions highlighting the falls as a key attraction. The main walking track follows Leura Falls Creek, leading to various vantage points with stunning views of the cascades and the Jamison Valley. The Leura Cascades Fern Bower circuit is a moderately challenging 4.5km loop that takes you past the main cascades, Bridal Veil Falls, and through lush rainforest. Along the way, you can enjoy the diverse flora and fauna, including the calls of catbirds and wompoo pigeons. Historically, the area around Leura Falls was developed in the early 20th century to encourage tourism between Leura and Katoomba. This included the construction of Cliff Drive, swimming baths, and a kiosk (now the Solitary Restaurant). While the baths are no longer present, the area retains its historical charm and natural beauty. Today, Leura Falls continues to be a highlight for visitors to the Blue Mountains, offering a tranquil retreat and a chance to connect with nature.
