Discover more about Orphan Rock Lookout

Orphan Rock Lookout is a stunning vantage point located on Reids Plateau in Katoomba, New South Wales. It provides visitors with awe-inspiring views of the Jamison Valley, including the distinctive Orphan Rock, a solitary sandstone pillar. In the early days of Blue Mountains tourism, Orphan Rock was a popular attraction, even more so than the Three Sisters. A walking track to the summit was constructed in 1934, featuring ladders and steps hewn into the rock. However, due to safety concerns and a mudslide that damaged the access track in 1974, the path to the top was closed and never reopened. Today, visitors can still admire Orphan Rock and the surrounding scenery from the easily accessible Orphan Rock Lookout. The lookout is a short, five-minute walk from the nearby car park, making it an excellent destination for travelers of all ages. From the lookout, you can witness the changing colors of the sky during sunrise or sunset. The tranquility of the area also makes it an ideal spot for reflection, relaxation, or simply enjoying the sounds of nature. The lookout is located on Reids Plateau, which also offers views of Katoomba Falls. The plateau is easily accessible and a great starting point for exploring other nearby walking trails.
