Discover more about Giant Stairway

The Giant Stairway is a legendary walking track etched into the cliffs near the Three Sisters at Echo Point in the Blue Mountains National Park. This impressive feat of engineering allows adventurers to descend approximately 300 meters (1000 feet) into the Jamison Valley via more than 800 steps and metal stairways. The stairway's story began in 1914 with Chief Ranger Jim McKay, who envisioned a path connecting Echo Point to the valley floor. Construction commenced in 1916 but was halted due to high costs. Work resumed in 1932, thanks to lobbying from photographer Harry Phillips, and the Giant Stairway was officially opened later that year.Today, the Giant Stairway provides access to numerous walking tracks, including Federal Pass, which leads to Scenic World and Katoomba Falls. The descent offers breathtaking views of the Three Sisters from a unique perspective, as well as the surrounding Jamison Valley. While the descent is exhilarating, be prepared for a strenuous climb back up, or opt for a ride on the Scenic Railway from the valley floor.
