Discover more about Kiandra heritage track

The Kiandra Heritage Track offers a poignant glimpse into Australia's gold rush history. This easy 1.2km loop meanders through the Kiandra Heritage Precinct, once a bustling town fueled by the fleeting Kiandra gold rush of 1859-1861. At its peak, Kiandra was home to around 8,000 people hoping to strike it rich. Today, the track guides you through the remnants of this era, with interpretive signs detailing life in this isolated community. You'll see the former courthouse, a tangible reminder of the town's administrative center. While some infrastructure was damaged in the 2020 bushfires, the track has reopened, allowing visitors to connect with the past. Kiandra is located in the Selwyn area of Kosciuszko National Park and is also known as the birthplace of Australian skiing. Even though the gold rush was short, Kiandra became known as an access point to the Australian Alps Walking Track, cycling, horse riding trails, fishing and camping spots.
