Getting There

  • Walking

    The Kosciuszko Walk commences at the top of the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift, accessible from Thredbo Village. From the Thredbo Resort Centre, follow signs to the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift. Purchase a scenic lift pass, which costs around $31 return, or $25 one way. The chairlift ride takes approximately 15 minutes. At the top, follow the marked path towards Mount Kosciuszko. Alternatively, skip the chairlift and hike up the 4km Merritts Nature Track from Thredbo Village, adding 2-3 hours to your hike. Note: Running is not permitted on the mesh walkway.

  • Public Transport

    From Jindabyne, the Snowy Mountain Bus Service operates to Thredbo on Fridays to Sundays during peak times. Pre-booking is required, and the fare includes the Kosciuszko National Park entry fee. Alternatively, NSW TrainLink Regional train and coach services connect Sydney to Cooma, with connecting services to Jindabyne. From Jindabyne, transfer to a local bus service or taxi to reach Thredbo. A taxi from Jindabyne to Thredbo will cost approximately $100-$150.

  • Driving

    From Jindabyne, travel along Kosciuszko Road and turn left onto Alpine Way. Continue for 31km and turn right into Thredbo Village. Park in the day parking area near Friday Flat. Be aware that during peak season, the car park may reach capacity, leading to road closures. Park entry fees apply upon entering Kosciuszko National Park. During the winter peak (June to October long weekends), the fee is $29 per vehicle per day. For the rest of the year, the fee is $17 per vehicle per day. Park passes can be purchased at the NPWS vehicle entry station or online.
