Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, head towards the Mount Wellington summit road. From the main city of Hobart, take Davey Street and follow the signs for the Mount Wellington Road. The drive takes about 30 minutes. Once you reach the summit road, continue until you see the signs for the South West Viewing Platform. Park your car in the designated parking area. After parking, follow the walking path that leads to the South West Viewing Platform, which will take approximately 5-10 minutes.

• Public Transport

  To reach the South West Viewing Platform using public transport, take a bus from Hobart city center to the Mount Wellington area. The Metro bus services run regularly to the base of Mount Wellington. You will need to check the current schedule for the most accurate times. Once you arrive at the base, you can either walk the remaining distance to the South West Viewing Platform, which will take about 1-1.5 hours, or if you prefer, look for any local taxi services or rideshare options to take you up to the summit road. Be aware that there may be a fare for the bus and taxi services.

• Walking

  If you're already in the Mount Wellington area and prefer to hike, you can access the South West Viewing Platform by following the well-marked walking trails. The most common route starts from the base of the mountain and follows the Pinnacle Track. This hike can take about 2-3 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and carry water and snacks, as the path can be steep and rugged.
