Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, head towards Maldon, Victoria. From Melbourne, take the Calder Freeway (M79) towards Bendigo. Exit at the Calder Alternative Highway (B260) towards Castlemaine. Continue on B260 until you reach the Maldon exit. Follow the signs to Maldon, and then take the Mount Tarrengower Road, which will lead you directly to the Mount Tarrengower Lookout. The drive from Melbourne takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. There are no toll roads on this route.

• Public Transportation

  If you're using public transport, take a V/Line train from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne to Castlemaine. From Castlemaine, you can catch a local bus (Route 6) that goes to Maldon. Once in Maldon, you can either walk or take a taxi to Mount Tarrengower Lookout. Note that the bus service may not be frequent, so check the schedule ahead of time. The train journey takes approximately 1.5 hours, and the bus ride takes around 20 minutes.

• Walking

  If you're in Maldon and prefer to walk to the lookout, it’s about a 3-kilometer hike from the town center to the lookout. Head west on Main Street, then take a left onto Mount Tarrengower Road. Follow this road as it climbs up the mountain. The path is well-defined and offers beautiful views along the way. The walk should take around 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace.

  For those who prefer a quicker option after arriving in Maldon via public transport, you can use a local taxi service or rideshare apps like Uber to get to Mount Tarrengower Lookout.
