Getting There

• Car

  To reach Mount Alexander Regional Park by car, start by navigating to Harcourt North, VIC 3453. If you're coming from Bendigo, take the Calder Freeway (M79) heading south towards Melbourne. Exit at the Harcourt exit and follow the signs to Harcourt North. Once in Harcourt, turn onto the Pyrenees Highway (C792) towards Castlemaine. Continue for approximately 6 km, then turn onto Mount Alexander Road. Follow this road until you reach the park entrance. Ensure that you have a GPS or a map handy for specific turns, as mobile reception may be limited in some areas.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transport, take a train to Castlemaine from either Melbourne or Bendigo. Upon arrival at Castlemaine station, you can catch a local bus (Bus Route 4) to Harcourt. The bus will drop you at the main street in Harcourt. From there, it's a short walk (about 1.5 km) to the Mount Alexander Regional Park entrance. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services may be limited on weekends.

• Bicycle

  If you're feeling adventurous and would like to cycle to Mount Alexander Regional Park, you can ride from Castlemaine via the Castlemaine to Harcourt Rail Trail. This scenic route is approximately 15 km and follows the old railway line. Start at Castlemaine Station and follow the trail signs. The path is well-marked but be prepared for some inclines as you approach the park. Make sure to wear a helmet and bring plenty of water.

• Walking

  For experienced hikers, there is a walking trail that leads from Harcourt to Mount Alexander Regional Park. This trail is approximately 5 km and features beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Start at the Harcourt town center and follow the walking trail markers. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water, as it can be challenging in parts.
