Getting There

• Car

  To reach the North British Mine ruins in Maldon, VIC 3463 by car, start by getting on the Calder Freeway (M79) from your current location in Northern Victoria. If you’re coming from Melbourne, take the Calder Freeway towards Bendigo. After approximately 95 kilometers, take the exit for the McIvor Highway (B280) towards Heathcote/Maldon. Continue on McIvor Highway until you reach Maldon. Once in Maldon, follow signs to the North British Mine ruins, which are located just outside the town center. Look for a small dirt road leading to the ruins off the main road. Parking is available nearby, but be prepared for a short walk to the site. Note that some roads may be unsealed; a 4WD vehicle is recommended if you're visiting during or after heavy rain.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, the best option is to take a train to Castlemaine from Melbourne. From Castlemaine, you can catch a local bus (route 58) to Maldon. Check the local bus timetable for the most current schedule, and expect a short journey of about 20 minutes. Once you arrive in Maldon, you can either walk (approximately 2 kilometers) to the North British Mine ruins or use a taxi service from the town center. Be aware that the bus services may be limited, especially on weekends and public holidays, so plan your trip accordingly.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, cycling to the North British Mine ruins is an option. From Maldon, follow the local bike paths and roads leading to the site, which is about 3 kilometers outside of town. Ensure you have a good map or GPS to navigate the local roads. The route may involve some unsealed paths, so a mountain bike is recommended. Bring water and snacks as there are no facilities at the ruins.
