Getting There
-
Driving
From Sölden, take the Ötztal Glacier Road (Ötztaler Gletscherstraße) towards the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers. Note that this is a toll road, costing €25.50 for cars with up to 5 people, or €7.50 per person for cars with 6 or more. A valid ski pass waives the toll. Parking is available at both glaciers. Rettenbach Glacier has parking for 850 cars and 40 buses, while Tiefenbach Glacier has parking for 1,100 cars and 40 buses.
-
Public Transport
From Sölden, a public bus provides access to the glacier area. The bus is free for holders of the Ötztal Inside Summer Card. Without a ski pass or the Ötztal Inside Summer Card, a regular bus service takes you to the Glacier Arena; the trip takes approximately 30 minutes from the center of Sölden. Check local bus schedules for specific times and stops. A single bus fare will typically cost between €4-€6.
-
Cable Car
During winter, the Ötztal Glacier Road is typically closed. Access to the Glacier Arena is primarily via the Sölden winter ski area using the 'Golden Gate' glacier express. From the Sölden ski area, follow signs to the Golden Gate lift system, which connects to the glacier slopes. A valid ski pass is required to use the lifts; lift ticket prices vary depending on the season and duration; consult the Sölden Bergbahnen website for current rates.
