Getting There

  • Car

    From Sarteneja, head south on the main road towards Corozal. Continue on this road until you reach the junction to the Philip Goldson Highway (also known as the Northern Highway). Turn left onto the highway and continue driving for approximately 1.5 hours. You will pass through towns such as Orange Walk and Belize City. Follow the signs towards Mexico and ensure you have your passport ready for border crossing. After crossing the border into Mexico, continue on the main highway towards Chetumal. Once in Chetumal, follow signs to Bacalar and take Avenida Costera towards Laguna Bacalar. Cenote Esmeralda will be located along this avenue.

  • Public Transportation

    From Sarteneja, take a local bus or shuttle towards Corozal town. The bus should drop you at the main terminal in Corozal. From there, catch a bus heading to Belize City. Once in Belize City, transfer to a bus that goes directly to Chetumal, Mexico. After reaching Chetumal, take another bus from the terminal to Bacalar.
