Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the Clock Tower Square in Thimphu, which is centrally located and easy to find. From the Clock Tower, head south towards Norzin Lam street. Walk down Norzin Lam for about 15 minutes, enjoying the local shops and cafes along the way. When you reach the intersection with Chubachu Road, turn left and continue walking straight. After about 10 more minutes, you will see the entrance to Dechen Phodrang Monastery on your right. The monastery is situated on a hillside, so be prepared for a gentle incline as you approach the entrance.

    If you are starting from the National Memorial Chorten, walk north towards the main road (Norzin Lam). Once you reach Norzin Lam, turn right and follow the road for approximately 20 minutes. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Chubachu Road. Turn left onto Chubachu Road and walk for about 10 minutes. The monastery will be on your right as you approach.

    From the Tashichho Dzong, exit the grounds and head east towards the main road. Once you reach the main road (Norzin Lam), turn left. After about 15 minutes of walking along Norzin Lam, turn left onto Chubachu Road. Continue for another 10 minutes, and you will find Dechen Phodrang Monastery on your right, just off the road.
