The Basílica do Senhor do Bonfim, located on the Sacred Hill in Salvador, is one of Brazil's most important and revered churches. Construction began in 1740, and the church was inaugurated in 1754, with the towers completed around 1772. The basilica is dedicated to Senhor do Bonfim (Lord of the Good End), a representation of Jesus Christ, and is a major pilgrimage site for Catholics and followers of Afro-Brazilian religions alike.The church's architecture features a neoclassical style with a Rococo facade, modeled after 18th and 19th-century Portuguese churches.
