Discover more about Japan House São Paulo

Japan House São Paulo, which opened in May 2017, is the first of three Japan Houses, a project led by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote Japanese culture worldwide. Designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma in partnership with FGMF Arquitetos, the building occupies a renovated former bank on Paulista Avenue. The building's facade is constructed from hinoki cypress, assembled to evoke a forest in the city. Inside, the design incorporates washi-style metallic mesh. The 2,600m² space includes exhibition areas, a library, seminar rooms, shops, a café, and a restaurant. Japan House presents a variety of exhibitions and events, from art and technology to gastronomy and fashion. The goal is to offer visitors a comprehensive view of Japanese culture, connecting its past and present. Visitors can explore Japanese cuisine at the on-site restaurant and café, and purchase unique items at the SHIN and Furoshiki stores. Japan House aims to create a space where visitors can experience Japanese values like precision, politeness, and simplicity.
