The Obelisco do Ibirapuera is a mausoleum and monument in Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo, Brazil, completed in 1955. It stands as a tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives during the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, a conflict against the Getúlio Vargas government, seeking a new constitution. The obelisk not only commemorates the past but also serves as a gathering place for locals and tourists alike. The obelisk, designed by Italo-Brazilian sculptor Galileo Ugo Emendabili, is made of pure travertine marble. Its construction began in 1947 and was completed in 1955, a year after the inauguration of Ibirapuera Park. The interior contains the remains of 713 soldiers. Inside, biblical scenes and passages from São Paulo's history are depicted in Venetian mosaic tiles. The monument is under historical preservation by state and municipal councils. After being closed for 12 years for renovations, the Obelisco do Ibirapuera reopened on December 9, 2014, with improvements to its hydraulic and acoustic systems.
