Discover more about Praça Dom Orione

Praça Dom Orione, located in the Bela Vista neighborhood of São Paulo, offers a peaceful retreat from the urban hustle. This charming plaza is known for its lush greenery, inviting benches, and well-maintained pathways, making it ideal for leisurely strolls and relaxation. The plaza is named after Luigi Orione, an Italian Catholic priest who performed charitable work in several countries. Brazil, specifically the Bixiga neighborhood, was the first country outside of Italy to benefit from his work. He cared for the old chapel on Rua 13 de Maio, now the Church of Nossa Senhora Achiropita, and initiated aid to those in need. In 2004, Luigi Orione was proclaimed a saint by Pope John Paul II. Every Sunday since 1984, Praça Dom Orione hosts the Feira do Bixiga, a traditional antiques fair. This lively market attracts visitors with a diverse array of offerings, from antique toys to silverware and vintage magazines. The surrounding streets, including Rua Fortaleza, Rui Barbosa, and 13 de Maio, feature cantinas, theaters, and antique shops. The Bixiga staircase is also nearby.
