Phantasea Tropical Botanical Garden: A Lush Oasis in St. Thomas

Phantasea Tropical Botanical Garden, a hidden gem on St. Thomas, invites visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant beauty of the Caribbean. This two-acre garden, owned and operated by Patsy Breunlin, showcases over 1,200 plant species, a third of which are native to the Virgin Islands. Founded in 2015, Phantasea began as Breunlin's private collection before she opened it to the public, transforming a dense jungle into a walkable tropical paradise. As an architect, Breunlin designed hurricane and earthquake-proof structures within the garden, which withstood the 2017 hurricanes without damage. Visitors can explore winding paths, relax in shaded seating areas, and admire panoramic views of the surrounding islands. The garden is home to diverse flora, including orchids, bromeliads, and tropical trees, as well as fauna like lizards, frogs, birds, and butterflies. Educational signs provide insights into the plants and wildlife, while the gift shop offers orchids and air plants for purchase.
