Getting There

  • Car

    From the main entrance of Sage Mountain National Park, take the road leading south towards the North Shore Road. After approximately 2 miles, you will reach a fork. Keep left to stay on North Shore Road (Route 20). Continue for about 4 miles until you arrive at the intersection near Cruz Bay. At this point, you will want to turn right onto Route 104, which is the road leading to Reef Bay. Follow Route 104 for about 3 miles. You will see signs for the Reef Bay Trail; turn left and park at the designated area. From the parking area, you will need to hike down the Reef Bay Trail, which is about a 1.5-mile walk. The trail will lead you directly to the Reef Bay Sugar Mill Ruins.

  • Public Transportation

    If you are using public transportation, you can take the Virgin Islands Public Transportation System (VIPTS) bus that runs between Cruz Bay and various locations on St. John. Board the bus at the Cruz Bay terminal and ask the driver to let you off at the Reef Bay Trailhead. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you get off at the trailhead, you will need to hike down the Reef Bay Trail for about 1.5 miles to reach the Reef Bay Sugar Mill Ruins.
