Discover more about The Baths

The Baths, located on the southwestern tip of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, are a breathtaking geological formation that attracts visitors from around the globe. Enormous granite boulders, some as large as 40 feet in diameter, are scattered across the beach and into the sea, creating a labyrinth of natural pools, caves, and grottoes. These batholiths were formed millions of years ago when molten rock seeped into existing volcanic layers but didn't reach the surface. The slow cooling process resulted in the hard, crystalline granite formations we see today. Over time, the softer volcanic rock eroded, exposing the granite boulders, while weathering rounded their corners, creating the smooth, sculpted shapes. Visitors can explore the Baths by swimming, snorkeling, and hiking through the maze of rocks. The most famous section is the Cathedral Room, a triangular cavern formed by massive boulders with sunlight streaming through the cracks. The Baths also offer sheltered swimming areas and secret grottos with warm, clear water. Trails with ropes and ladders guide explorers through the rock formations to secluded beaches like Devil's Bay. The Baths are more than just a scenic attraction; they're a natural wonder that showcases the power of geological processes over millions of years. The area is part of the Devil's Bay National Park, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
