Discover more about Hansen Bay Beach

Hansen Bay Beach, a hidden gem on St. John's East End, beckons with its serene atmosphere and stunning natural beauty. This secluded beach, also known as Vie's Beach, is a favorite among locals and tourists seeking a peaceful retreat away from the crowds. The soft, white sand and calm, clear waters create an inviting environment for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. The bay's protected location ensures gentle waves, making it ideal for families with children and novice swimmers. Snorkeling enthusiasts will delight in the vibrant marine life, including sea turtles, stingrays, and colorful tropical fish. Pelican Rock, located off the left side of the beach, is a particularly popular spot for underwater exploration. For many years, Hansen Bay was also known for Vie's Snack Shack, a beloved local institution that offered delicious home-cooked meals and refreshing drinks. Vie, the owner, closed her snack shack in 2016 to enjoy her retirement, but the beach remains a welcoming destination for all. Though Vie's is closed, a food truck may be available. Hansen Bay Beach has been in the Reyes family for approximately 300 years. Thalia Reyes and her cousin Doña are committed to maintaining this gem of a beach for locals, visitors, and newcomers alike.
