Local tips
- Check the weather forecast before you go, as conditions in the mountains can change rapidly. Clear weather offers the best views.
- Wear sturdy hiking boots and appropriate clothing for all types of weather. The terrain can be rocky and the temperature can drop significantly at higher altitudes.
- Bring plenty of water and snacks, especially if you plan to hike the entire trail. There are huts along the way where you can purchase refreshments, but it's always good to be prepared.
- Start early in the morning to allow ample time for the hike and to avoid crowds, especially during peak season.
- Consider using a GPS device or downloading a hiking map to stay on the trail, especially in foggy conditions.

Gondola & Hiking
The most common approach involves taking the Yastrebets Gondola Lift from Borovets to the Yastrebets peak. From Sofia, you can reach Borovets by bus from the Ovcha Kupel bus station, with tickets costing approximately 12 BGN. The bus journey takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once in Borovets, the gondola lift to Yastrebets costs 35 BGN for a round-trip ticket for adults and 20 BGN for children during the summer season. The gondola ride takes about 25 minutes. From the top of the gondola, follow the marked trail to Musala Peak, which is approximately a 5-6 hour hike to the summit and back. The trail is well-marked with red signs.

Hiking
For a more challenging experience, you can hike all the way from Borovets to Musala Peak. This adds an additional 3-4 hours to the ascent to the Yastrebets peak. Follow the trail from Borovets to the Yastrebets Gondola mid-station or top station and continue towards Musala Hut and the summit. Be prepared for a full-day hike and consider staying overnight at the Musala Hut or Ledenoto Ezero shelter if you choose this option.
