Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Sapareva Banya, which serves as the nearest town. From the center of Sapareva Banya, take the road leading to the Rila Monastery. After about 3 km, you will see a sign for the Skakavitsa waterfall trail, which is also marked on Google Maps. Park your car in the designated parking area near the trailhead. Make sure to check local signage for any parking fees, which typically range from 2 to 5 BGN.
Public Transportation
To reach Skakavitsa waterfall using public transport, take a bus from Sofia to Sapareva Banya. Buses run regularly from the Central Bus Station in Sofia and the journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Once in Sapareva Banya, walk towards the town center and look for signs to the Skakavitsa waterfall trail. The trailhead is about a 30-minute walk from the bus station. Ensure to check the bus schedules for return trips as they may vary throughout the day.
Hiking
Upon reaching the trailhead, follow the marked path that leads towards the Skakavitsa waterfall. The hike is approximately 2.5 km and takes around 1 hour. The trail is well-maintained but can be steep in some sections, so wear appropriate hiking shoes. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Rila Mountains.
