Getting There
Walking
Start at the Santa Maria beach area, where you can find several hotels and cafes. From the beach, head east towards the main road Avenida de Praia. Once you reach Avenida de Praia, turn left and walk along the road. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Rua 15 de Setembro. Turn right onto Rua 15 de Setembro and follow it until you reach the end of the street, where you will see a sign directing you to Ponta Adiante. Continue straight along the dirt path until you reach Praia da Atalanta. The walk should take you about 30 minutes.
Public Transport
From Santa Maria, head to the central bus station located on Rua 15 de Setembro. Look for a minibus headed towards Ponta Adiante. The fare is usually quite affordable. Once you board, notify the driver that you want to get off at Praia da Atalanta. The journey takes about 15 minutes. After getting off, you may need to walk a few minutes towards the beach. Follow the signs towards Praia da Atalanta, and you will arrive shortly.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer to cycle, rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Santa Maria. Start from the main square and head towards Avenida de Praia. Follow the same route as for walking, but on a bicycle, you can take a more direct path through the beachside paths. This route should take about 15-20 minutes. Once you reach the area near Ponta Adiante, park your bicycle and walk the last few minutes to Praia da Atalanta.
