If you are in Big Sur Village, start by heading north on California State Route 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). Walk along the highway, keeping an eye out for the McWay Falls trailhead sign which will be on your left side. The walk is approximately 2 miles, and you should enjoy the stunning views of the coastline along the way. Once you reach the trailhead, follow the clearly marked path that leads to McWay Falls, which is about a 0.5-mile walk. The trail is well-maintained and should take around 10 minutes to reach the viewpoint.
Biking
If you are biking from Big Sur Village, head north on California State Route 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). The ride is about 2 miles with beautiful coastal views. Look for the McWay Falls trailhead sign on your left. Once you arrive at the trailhead, park your bike in the designated area. From there, take the short, well-marked trail to McWay Falls, which is approximately 0.5 miles and takes about 10 minutes to walk.
Hiking
For those who prefer a more rugged adventure, you can hike to McWay Falls from the nearby Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Start at the park's entrance, which is about 3 miles south of Big Sur Village on California State Route 1. Follow the signs to the McWay Falls trail. The hike is approximately 1 mile round trip and will take about 30 minutes. The trail is relatively easy, offering scenic views along the way. Remember to bring water and wear appropriate hiking gear.
