If you are in Big Sur Village, start at the Big Sur River Inn. From there, head south on the California Coastal Trail, which runs parallel to Highway 1. The trail is well-marked, but be sure to keep an eye on coastal views along the way. Continue along the trail for about 2 miles until you reach the Soberanes Point Trailhead. From the trailhead, take the Soberanes Point Trail, which leads to Painters Point. The hike is moderately strenuous and will take about 1 hour. Once you reach the Soberanes Point Trailhead, lock your bike and take the Soberanes Point Trail on foot for the final 1 mile to Painters Point.
