Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From downtown San Francisco, take the F Market historic streetcar line to the Jones Street terminal, a short walk east of the park. Alternatively, the Beach and Hyde Street terminal of the San Francisco cable car system adjoins the main site. A single ride on Muni costs $3.00 cash, or $2.50 with a Clipper card or MuniMobile. A day pass, valid on buses, trains, and streetcars (but not cable cars) is $5.70 via the MuniMobile app.

  • Walking

    From Fisherman's Wharf, head west along Jefferson Street. The park's visitor center and Hyde Street Pier are located at the western end of Fisherman's Wharf, approximately a 10-15 minute walk.

  • Driving

    From Lombard Street (Highway 101), turn south onto Van Ness Avenue, then turn west onto Bay Street. Continue onto Beach Street. Note that there is no designated parking area for the park. Metered street parking and paid parking lots are available in the area. Parking rates vary, with garages charging from $10 for 2 hours. Be aware that traffic can be heavy, especially around Fisherman's Wharf.

The San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, established in 1988, celebrates America's maritime heritage on the Pacific Coast. Situated in the Fisherman's Wharf area, the park offers a glimpse into the city's seafaring past with its historic ships, waterfront exhibits, and stunning bay views. The park comprises a visitor center, a maritime museum, the Aquatic Park Historic District, and a research library. The Aquatic Park includes a beach, lawn, and bocce ball courts. The Maritime Museum is housed in the Aquatic Park Bathhouse Building, a Streamline Moderne structure built in 1939. The building's interior features murals by Hilaire Hiler. Hyde Street Pier is home to a collection of historic vessels, including the Balclutha (1886), a square-rigged sailing ship; the Eureka (1890), a steam ferryboat; the Alma (1891), a scow schooner; the C.A. Thayer (1895), a schooner; and the Hercules (1907), a steam tug. The visitor center, located in a 1909 waterfront warehouse at Hyde and Jefferson streets, offers exhibits about San Francisco's maritime history.
