Discover more about Bella Luna Estate Winery

Bella Luna Estate Winery is a family-owned and operated winery that offers an authentic wine tasting experience on California's Central Coast. Tucked away in the Templeton Gap District of Paso Robles, the winery combines history, heart, and craftsmanship. Founded in 1998 by two lifelong friends, Kevin Healey and Sherman Smoot, Bella Luna began as a dream over a night of reminiscing and fine wine. The next morning, the plan to start a winery still sounded like a good idea, and at the age of 50, they planted dry-farmed Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Ruby Cabernet. Bella Luna's estate vineyard, Carly's Vineyard, is named after Sherman's daughter. The winery specializes in dry-farmed, hand-picked vineyards, and has embraced a minimalistic approach to winemaking for over 25 years. The wines are fermented using indigenous yeasts straight from the vineyard, and they pride themselves on not fining or filtering, letting nature's essence shine through every sip. Bella Luna focuses on single-vineyard, small-batch production, featuring varietals such as Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Zinfandel. Visiting Bella Luna is an invitation into the family. The tasting room, which has been in the same building since 2003, has evolved into a welcoming space with Tuscan-inspired touches. The personal connection truly sets the experience apart. During harvest, tastings move to the courtyard, offering beautiful views of the vineyard. Visitors can also participate in winemaking activities during harvest, from sorting grapes to pressing fruit.
