CuriOdyssey is more than just a museum; it's a dynamic learning environment where children can explore the wonders of science and nature. Founded in 1954, originally as the San Mateo County Junior Museum, CuriOdyssey has evolved into a leading science and wildlife center. The museum features over 50 hands-on science exhibits designed for young visitors to experiment with natural phenomena. Visitors can also observe nearly 100 rescued animals native to California that can't survive in the wild. These include bobcats, river otters, and various bird species. CuriOdyssey is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), a distinction held by fewer than 10% of zoos and aquariums nationwide. In addition to its exhibits, CuriOdyssey offers a range of educational programs, including school-based programs and public events. The museum also hosts special events like IlluminOdyssey, a dazzling light experience held during the winter months. CuriOdyssey is committed to providing an inclusive experience for all visitors, offering Sensory Sundays with reduced crowds and quieter spaces for neurodivergent individuals.
