Discover more about Inspiration Point

Inspiration Point, located within Tilden Regional Park, is a scenic vista point offering breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay Area. Situated along Wildcat Canyon Road in Orinda, bordering Berkeley, it serves as a popular starting point for exploring the park's extensive trail network. Tilden Regional Park, established in 1936, is one of the East Bay Regional Park District's oldest parks. Named after Charles Lee Tilden, the first president of the Park District Board of Directors, the park spans over 2,079 acres and provides a diverse range of recreational activities. Inspiration Point provides access to various trails, including the popular Nimitz Way, a paved path ideal for hiking, biking, and strollers. Nimitz Way is named after Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, a World War II naval leader who frequented the area and was known for scattering wildflower seeds along the trail. The point also connects to other trails like Wildcat Peak Trail and Conlon Trail, offering options for both short walks and longer, more challenging hikes. The area around Inspiration Point has a rich history. Before becoming a park, the land was inhabited by the Ohlone people, followed by Spanish explorers and Mexican ranchers. During the New Deal era, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) constructed many of the park's features, including roads, trails, and picnic spots.
