Discover more about Memorial County Park

Memorial County Park, established in 1924, stands as a testament to the beauty and tranquility of the Santa Cruz Mountains. This 673-acre park is home to magnificent old-growth redwood forests, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in nature. Dedicated to the men of San Mateo County who died in World War I, the park provides a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The park features over eight miles of hiking trails that wind through diverse habitats, from Pescadero Creek to the summit of Mt. Ellen. The self-guided Mt. Ellen Nature Trail offers an easy interpretive loop, while the Pomponio Trail rewards hikers with panoramic views. For those seeking a longer trek, the park connects to the larger Pescadero Creek Park complex, boasting over 8,000 acres of open space. Memorial Park is a popular destination for family camping, with several campgrounds nestled among the redwoods. The park also offers picnic areas, a visitor center with natural and historic exhibits, and a camp store. During the summer months, visitors can enjoy campfire programs, naturalist walks, and movies in the park. The park's history is intertwined with the region's logging past, with remnants of old sawmill sites found within its boundaries. Fortunately, much of the area was saved from logging and preserved for future generations to enjoy. Today, Memorial Park continues to be a cherished destination for those seeking solace and recreation in the heart of the redwoods.
