Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, first make sure you are in Redwood National and State Parks. From the visitor center, take Highway 101 North. Follow signs for Crescent City and take the exit for US-199. Continue on US-199 until you reach the intersection with CA-1. Turn left onto CA-1, and continue until you reach the small town of Orick. From Orick, take the exit for Bald Hills Road and follow it until you arrive at the trailhead for the Methuselah Tree. Remember to park in designated areas and be aware of parking fees that may apply.

• Public Transportation

  If using public transportation, take a Greyhound or local bus service to Crescent City. From Crescent City, you can use a local shuttle service (check schedules in advance) to reach the Redwood National and State Parks area. Once you arrive at the park, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to get to the Methuselah Tree trailhead, as public transport does not directly reach the tree. Be sure to confirm any shuttle times and fares beforehand.

• Hiking

  Once you have reached the Methuselah Tree trailhead, the hike itself is approximately a 2-mile round trip on a well-marked path. The trail is relatively easy to follow, but make sure you wear appropriate hiking gear and bring plenty of water. Keep an eye out for signs indicating the direction to the Methuselah Tree.
