Discover more about Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park Redwood Gate

Dr. Aurelia Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park, a part of the East Bay Regional Parks District, offers a tranquil escape into nature. Located in the hills east of Oakland, the park boasts the largest remaining natural stand of coast redwoods in the East Bay. Once the site of extensive logging in the mid-1800s to supply building materials for the burgeoning San Francisco Bay Area, the park has regrown into a majestic forest. Today, visitors can wander through peaceful groves of 150-foot coast redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens), a testament to nature's resilience. The park was renamed in 2019 to honor Dr. Aurelia Henry Reinhardt, president of Mills College and a champion for redwood preservation. The park features nearly 40 miles of trails for hiking, jogging, and horseback riding. The Stream Trail is an easy, flat path perfect for leisurely strolls, while other trails offer more challenging climbs to scenic ridgelines. Keep an eye out for diverse wildlife, including deer, raccoons, squirrels, and even rare golden eagles and Alameda striped racers. The park also contains picnic areas, a children's play structure, and equestrian amenities.
